On April 11, 2021, Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man, was killed by Brooklyn Center police officer Kimberly Potter in a suburb outside of Minneapolis. Potter had stopped Wright for a traffic violation, when Potter, who had been with the police department for 26 years, allegedly mistook her handgun for her Taser and shot and killed Wright.
